Tips for getting the most out of your staff
Regular feedback – Your employees need to know how they are doing and regular feedback is the key to keeping them motivated.
Staff need to know how they are performing so that they can identify the areas where they need to improve, which contributes significantly to their job satisfaction. The more positive and objective the feedback you provide the better.
People need recognition and encouragement. If you make your staff feel good about their work, they will reward you by performing better.
Keep training your staff – In today’s fast-paced business environment it is important to keep your staff up to date with the latest technologies, methodologies and developments in their industry.
Whether this consists of formal continuous professional development (CPD) training or informal ad-hoc training sessions, keeping your staff up to date is imperative to the success of your firm.
Your employees will be less productive than your competitors’ employees if they do not keep up to date with industry developments. In addition, your staff will feel valued if the company invests in training and CPD.
Your people are your business’s most valuable asset and if trained to a high level they will assist your business in achieving its goals.
Although there are many others factors that can lead to success or failure for any business, the way you manage and treat your employees can make a significant difference in the long run.
Keep your staff up to date with new company developments – Your staff need to feel that they are part of the company and keeping them up to date on new developments in the firm is important.
Keeping employees in the dark about their work and the company’s goals can be demoralising as the staff can feel under-valued. To combat this, management should organise frequent meetings with the staff.
The management team should use this opportunity to tell them about what is happening in the company and ask for their opinion / feedback. Your staff may well contribute some fantastic ideas and by involving them you will make them feel like they are truly part of the organisation.
Say thanks – Encouragement is important for staff moral and keeping your team motivated. As such, it is important to say “thank you”.
Management should be able to look staff members in the eye and tell them that their hard work is appreciated.The human connection isn’t a nice thing to have; it’s a must-have for every business.
